1914 - It was the end of the world as we knew it - things got much better!
by TheStumbler ini was having a conversation with a jw relative recently i casually mentioned how much better the world is than a few centuries.
obviously the jw was incredulous.
the next day i found an email in my inbox listing a few qoutes from notable people saying how the world has gotten much worse since 1914 and that 1914 was a pivitol year.

Governing body member engaged... Again!
by OneDayillBeFree injust found out that the australian governong body member known as geoffrey jackson got engaged to a sister about two weeks ago.
it really shocked me at first but then i remembered how other members of the gb have remarried in the past like daniel sidlik.
what made me say "woah" was hearing that the holy bride to be is really young!

notjustyet >> Indeed, an awkward position to be in. On the upside, the FDS/GB are washed clean of any wrongdoings.
Because of such divine goodness to them in their restored spiritual estate, the members of the anointed remnant feel a loathing of themselves when they look back at what they were in the past, taking note of their errors and bad dealings that were not glorifying to God’s name. It makes them ashamed, it makes them feel humiliated, just to think about it. This attitude takes away from them any inclination to engage in spiritual and immoral impurities once again, willingly. Thus, because of the effect that Jehovah’s undeserved kindness has upon them in their restored estate, he saves them from all their impurities.

What's so Special About FREE Home Bible Studies?
by Ethos incontinuation of this thread: http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/beliefs/242543/2/free-home-bible-study.
newyorker: the familiar observation that the bible is the best-selling book of all time obscures a more startling fact: the bible is the best-selling book of the year, every year.
calculating how many bibles are sold in the united states is a virtually impossible task, but a conservative estimate is that in 2005 americans purchased some twenty-five million biblestwice as many as the most recent harry potter book.

. . . the specialty is to get you to go to the Kingdom Hall, just like Paul asked the jailer to do.
Thousands begin to worship Jehovah each year. Yet, must Bible studies be conducted with interested people for a long time, or is it possible for honesthearted ones to come to the point of baptism more quickly? Well, consider what happened in the case of the jailer and his household mentioned at Acts 16:25-34. Paul and Silas had been imprisoned at Philippi, but in the middle of the night, a great earthquake opened the prison doors. Thinking that all the prisoners had escaped and that he would be severely punished, the jailer was about to commit suicide when Paul told him that they were all there. Paul and Silas “spoke the word of Jehovah to him together with all those in his house.” That jailer and his family were Gentiles who had no background in the Holy Scriptures. Yet, in that one night, they became believers. More than that, “one and all, he and his were baptized.” Those were unusual circumstances, but new ones were taught basic truths and then learned other things at congregation meetings. Something similar should be possible today.

Are They Cynically Shutting Down The Organization?
by metatron ini've raised this idea before but recent events seem to support it.
changes in the watchtower may be guided by more than a need for cash flow: they may simply be liquidating/shutting it down as discreetly as possible.. of course, this doesn't mean they stop working on their upstate ny country club - but it could mean that the throrough going exposure and disproof of their beliefs on the internet, when it emerged, took many of them by surprize, as it did many of us!
after awhile, they generally gave up trying to make any sense of their doctrines - and coupled with cash flow issues - moved towards a quiet retreat.. take a look at a few things:.

metatron >> Why not get rid of all printing?
Would you go to a summer convention with no releases to be picked up?
. . . and perhaps that is just the reason for having scheduled the majority of the 2013 DCs into their very own assembly halls (at least in Germany).

New Light on the GB's new elite status still NOT AVAILABLE on JW.org in other languages (8 days later)
by Calebs Airplane inso far, available in english only... i guess there is a lead time for the interpreters.... this presents an opportunity for those who attend non-english congregations to ask their jw friends important questions on this subject, have them research the wt cd and then present this new light as a "possibility".... for example, you can ask them questions like:.
what would you say if i told you that the governing body no longer represents the annointed (a.k.a the fds)?what would you say if i told you that charles taze russell is no longer considered a part of the faithful & discreet slave?what would you say if i told you that, even though the publications say the fds started in 33, they have only been around for 94 years?i'm pretty sure you will be viewed as an apostate... until this news on the annual meeting shows up in their language.
just a thought.... .

Where does all the JW money go?
by LouBelle ini want to know.. does every kingdom hall, bethel and assembly hall belong to the watchtower, bible & tract society?.
each of those kingdom halls, bethels etc are built with the money obtained by that country's contributions.
if a loan is needed the bothers of that specific congregation pay off the loan.. the society has then an extremely huge amount of property worth billions of $$$$ who has control of all those funds?

The everlasting saga of The faithful and discreet slave class.
by MacHislopp inat the 128th annual meeting of the watch tower bible and tract society of pennsylvania, on october 6 th 2012 .
during this meeting “food at the proper time” was given and the most important, was given during a symposium of six talks by members of the governing body—brothers jackson, lösch, pierce, herd, lett, and splane— which analyzed and discussed the meaning of jesus’ words recorded at.
" (matthew 24: 45, 46) it must be conceded, then, that at the end ot the world, at the "time of the end", during the presence of the lord, during the harvest, he would have in the earth a servant who would be faithful and wise.

. . . from what I have read so far, CTR was the first Governing Body of modern times.
How did this governing body make its appearance in recent times? Evidently under the direction of Jehovah God and his Son Jesus Christ. According to the facts available, the governing body became associated with the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania. C. T. Russell was patently of that governing body back there in the last quarter of the nineteenth century.
1971 The Watchtower, 12/15, p. 760
Russell did not have to work together a s a group to be "the Governing Body", neither did Rutherford.
I guess, Knorr and Franz, when working together, were a grouped Governing Body of two.
. . . just like Noah and his family was an "organization" of eight.
